Tech for Good Summit

The annual Tech for Good Summit explores the power and potential of the tech for good ecosystem and the impact it is having. The event brings together practitioners from across the private, public and third sectors to share insights on technology’s impact on civil society. In 2023, the Summit included for the first time an in-person element, bringing together our Tech for Good Alliance contributors, hosted at the Barclays Campus in Glasgow. The event was also live-streamed to a audience of hundreds of people across the Scottish Tech Army and Tech for Good Alliance communities.

The day started with an opening keynote address by Rhodri Davies, the former Head of Policy at the Charities Aid Foundation and founder of the research organisation Why Philanthropy Matters Rhodri covered a wide range of topics related to the current status of the third sector. The sector is always under pressure and constraints, it is heavily dependent on the support of volunteers, funders and philanthropists. Technology has the potential to maximise the impact that can be created from these sources of support and Rhodri discussed where the greatest need and the greatest opportunity lie.

The closing keynote was a fireside chat featuring Kathryn Baddeley, Head of CSR for Cisco UK and Ireland, interviewed by Laura Goodwin, Innovation Correspondent with BBC Scotland. Cisco has one of the longest-established and most impactful tech for good programmes in the tech industry, with staff participation rates of over 85% and a target of creating positive impact on the lives of 1 Billion people within ten years. Kathryn inspired the audience by sharing her experience of building the programme from its early days to the truly impressive global scale that is has now reached.
